Okay, I’m going to tag this one because I’m more than a little annoyed that some of you don’t seem to get it.
This is going to be prefaced that I don’t think Tyler P. is homophobic/heterosexist even a little.
This, however isn’t because he
- works for a gay man
- hugs dudes
- talks about shipping
- kisses his male coworkers on the cheeks
- etc.
You can be homophobic and do all of these things and I should know because my family is chock-full of cis male homophobes who can act as queer as you can get without sucking cock and then in the next sentence casually joke about shipping queers off to an island so they’re not around all the straight people.
Jesus.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.
I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.
I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.
I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.
I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.
I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I did not have to always deal with society hating me.
I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don’t believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.
I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.
I am the person who is afraid of telling his loving Christian parents he loves another male.
I am the boy kicked out of his home because I am gay.

Oh god reading the reblogs on this is making me so fucking angry. Queer is not an identity you dumb fucks it is a homophobic slur. People who id as queer are not ~outside the norm~ there is nothing abnormal about being gay and it’s really fucking homophobic to say so. If you want to be “radically progressive” (gag) then call yourself ~radikewl~, not queer.
Fuck white man academia. It’s impossible to reclaim a slur that’s been distorted into such a controlling, othering ball and chain.
Anything lgbt people choose to ID themselves can be used against them if someone so wants to. So if a person wishes to be called queer or feels like queer fits them better than any of the other words that fit their identify, who are you to police that?

Please sign this petition to shut down "sissy boot camps" in Malaysia

Last week, Malaysia rounded up 66 teenage male students who were deemed effeminate and sent them to a government sponsored camp because it was feared they “could end up gay or transsexual”. Despite public outcry, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has not assured that such camps will never happen again.
We have less than a week to let Malaysia know the world is watching: we will deliver the petition next week at the ASEAN summit, where Prime Minister Razak will be in the international spotlight.
As somebody who is half Malaysian and queer this issue is obviously very important to me.
Last year my cousin told me he was gay. He’ll have to live his life as a heterosexual in fear that he’ll be discovered because he has no choice. Being gay is still illegal in Malaysia. If we can’t reverse that right now, the least we can do is prevent horrific things like this happening.
I can’t think of a better cause, I can’t implore you enough to sign this. It would mean a lot.
