and how stiles somehow manages to make everything about him

I think the worst part of that scene (and there are so many *worsts*) is how MUCH fandom/the audience jumped on the “poor stiles and his pain” train. HELLO HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT LYDIA’S BEEN THROUGH??
And after she storms out, we’re never shown the scene where he runs after and apologizes and says “I’ll drive you”. Because he must have! (i hope there was an apology in there) since we next see them together, charging in to save the day.
I really really wanted that scene.
It’s like for all that Stiles thinks that since he knows so much about her that he’s the one that deserves her affections, yet she doesn’t even deserve an apology after being yelled at for wanting to save Jackson instead of waiting on the sidelines? Not respectful.
Stiles was face to face with “lydia the ideal” (girl i’ve had a crush on for a long time! in my bedroom!) and “lydia the person” (….wants to save another guy.) and instead of having THAT realization be the focus of the scene, the writers went with “Stiles is still in denial, lydia’s problems are all about him! because he *cares* about her! LOOK AT HIS FEELINGS!”
If we could get 2 minutes of Peter wincing as he watched a fight scene (so lame and superfluous!) we could definitely have had Stiles show some character growth and be seen ACTUALLY apologizing to Lydia the person?
(but no, his acceptance of lydia-is-not-mine seems to come only when he sees her as the *magical soul mate of another guy*, and even then not at all.)

I’m sorry but that Stiles post has made me quite angry.
Stiles lives comfortably. This is fact. Scott and his mother experience frequent financial difficulties. This is also fact.
So who deserves page after page of meta about this?
Stiles, obviously. Because he can’t live comfortably! He must be sad and woobied at every turn! Even if it means denying an obvious privilege that his character enjoys. Concocting an entire back story to say, hey, he looks well off, but really he is hurt inside and that matters so much more.
Jesus. Just stop. The canon has given every indication that Stiles has money to burn. Stiles can live comfortably. Stiles can even be fiscally irresponsible or spoiled.
Because believe it or not, not every struggle a character experiences on this show must be applicable to Stiles. Stiles does not need to be written as outdoing Scott in ~angst in every goddamn thing.

I just want to know why the hell Lydia would even go to Stiles. Like, on the list of people she would go to, Stiles seems like somewhere she’d go way past the rest of our main cast.

Except that Derek doesn’t fucking have a relationship with Stiles yet beyond “oh you again why do we keep getting stuck together?” It’s Scott he has a relationship with, who he wants in his pack but who resists him because he doesn’t agree with Derek and doesn’t trust him to want the same things (like protecting Jackson instead of killing him).
Scott and Derek need each other as a pack. Derek has been wanting to protect Scott and teach him since he’s first been turned, he still wants to be there for Scott now even though the things he does keep driving the boy away from him. And Scott wants to be there for Derek because that’s the kind of person he is- he wants to be there for everyone, protect everyone, and a part of him wants to be pack as well.
Please can we all stop relating every single thing in this show to a ship that so far exists only potentially out of fandom? Especially when it means you ignore the developing relationship between Scott and Derek, which is real and valid and important to their characters.
Please don’t cheapen the work that’s going into them by pretending like Derek has an obligation to drop everything and focus on Stiles because that’s what the fandom wants/sees. There is more to Derek and Stiles than Sterek. Scott is part of it for both of them.
