there is more than one genius in beacon hills and chances are that stiles isn’t one of them
stiles is the kind of smart person who makes you feel like an idiot if you aren’t just as knowledgeable about his brand of specialized information, which is one of the worst kinds of smart people because you just want to smack them upside the head for being such obnoxious tools
and the rest of the fandom is following his lead and treating other characters—who do not have the time or inclination for acquiring that same set of specialized knowledge—as if they’re somehow less worthy for having this specialized knowledge (even tho according to s1 derek it’s… not always correct for the most part)
i don’t get these stans… they want stiles to be the MOST SPECIALEST EVAH, but get mad when the others aren’t JUST AS SPECIAL AS HIM (negating stiles’ specialness in the process as well, c’mon!) and therefore worth shit—
I mean, stiles is a clever kid. whatever. you love him, but being clever isn’t really the biggest deal. He ain’t no genius like the majority of fandom paints him out to be!
You know who else is PRETTY DAMN SMART and in ways that Stiles can barely wrap his mind around?
Lyida motherfucking Martin. Future Fields’ Medal winner who knows Ancient Latin and how to whip up a molotov cocktail by fucking memory. She is a natural born leader and smart as fuck—able to work a room as well as a math problem with ease.
and Danny? is a fucking technological magician. Granted, I don’t know how to hack or how hard it is generally speaking, but it definitely involves a specialized set of skills and knowledge that I do not have—and neither does Stiles, or why else did he ask for his help????
We don’t know much about Boyd, but we’ve already determined that he also possesses specialized knowledge, and i headcanon him as being really fucking smart and also not half the douchebag that Stiles can be. (also fuck that dropping out headcanon—if he isn’t in school it’s because he took his GED and bounced, or something else)
Stiles is fairly clever—but let’s be real here: what does he actually do besides have a penchant for research and a really good memory?
Maybe he can process that information in really clever ways—though i have yet to see evidence of that in canon—but that doesn’t make him a genius in the canon, whether underappreciated or not.

idk, i am pretty much exclusively talking about myself here, but do you remember when you would occasionally hint at queerness (and by you i mean me bcs i can’t talk about you but it is a funner pronoun)— like you would say something a little gay sounding to sort of test the waters and see what people think and how they react— and that stiles thinks HAHA I WILL MAKE A JOKE OF BEING GAY TO COVER THIS UP— and his dad’s first reaction is just a flat out you’re not gay— and then even though he’s terrified, even though he doesn’t want his father to think he’s actually gay, the indignant/furious/betrayed I COULD BE— agh do you see his furious jab at himself, ME, STILES, I could be!!!!!!
like goddamn daddinski i am quite fond of you but who the fuck are you to tell your kid he can’t be gay because of how he dresses, who is anyone to tell anyone they can’t be gay because of any factor, that shit is not okay and it is especially not ok to tell your child no matter how huge a liar and a fiend your child is and how sure you are that he’s lying or joking

yeah and i’ve seen some arguments excusing his behavior because ‘he’s just a teenager’ and ‘he’s had a crush on lydia since forever’ so apparently that somehow gives him a right to her body
if jackson had behaved the same way or treated lydia the same way stiles has people would be pissed (rightfully so) but since it’s stiles he cannot do any wrong and ‘he didn’t mean anything malicious by it.’
omg yeah, what even how can you excuse that sense io entitlement nice guys (tm) have, but then go talk crap about scott and how so into allison he is? at least scott always respects allison when it comes to boundaries and consent, actually asking for permission, whereas stiles has pestered lydia, invaded her space, disregarded her mental state/possible pts, and doesn’t actually do anything to really help her: the particular classroom scene where lydia writes somebody help me on the board? stiles made no gesture to maybe stop her from making a spectacle, because he doesn’t really care about lydia the person; he cares about the idealised perception of her he’s harboured for years and this perception suprecedes reality
Or maybe he was just a 16/17yo boy being overextended by the situation?
I hate it when people forget the fact that we don’t deal with a grown up here. We deal with a boy that is just out of puberty.

He asked her to dance. She said no. He told her to dance. She said no. He basically threw a verbal temper tantrum, was horribly unflattering considering that he supposedly likes her and she was flattered enough at her intelligence being recognized that she danced with him. But she said no TWICE and he ignored her wishes.
He does push himself on her. In the ep where they’re taking her to Scott’s house to protect her against Derek’s pack he touches her, she pulls away, he touches her again, she pulls away and then he touches her AGAIN after that. I don’t give a shit if he meant the touches sexuality, he can clearly see that she doesn’t want to be touched and he KEEPS DOING IT.
I’m not going to comment on the idealized version of her thing but he has a funny way of showing he cares. I can’t comment on why Scott didn’t help her while she was writing on the board but I do know that he would have if it was Allison, we’ve seen him pull Allison aside over and over again when he senses her distress. And this didn’t even require sensing, she was up there writing backwards sentences and having a meltdown and he just sits there and watches it and takes a picture.

After tonight last episode with Isaac getting the tickets for Scott and Stiles, I just want him to start bringing Stiles presets in general and courting him. Basically Isaac just providing Stiles with things he may or may not need in an effort to win over his affections.

Another that bugs me is that people seem to be forgetting about how every other episode Stiles suggests that killing someone or something to be the best option. He protects everyone, sure, but he’s not Scott. Stiles doesn’t suggest saving other people or extending mercy; Stiles goes to nip things in the bud. In season one, he wanted to kill Derek. In season two, it’s Jackson. It’s pretty clear that unless they’re people Stiles is attached to (first Scott, now Lydia), Stiles is fine with getting rid of them. It’s an interesting part of his character and it’s a shame that fandom as a whole ignores it.
